Artist Jimbo Phillips is an icon in the skateboard industry. As lead designer for Santa Cruz skateboards, he’s been cranking out “eye catching graphic design and mind numbing illustrations” for over two decades.

What advice does he give designers?
If you could own your own company, what kind of company would it be and why would you choose this type of company?

ReplyDeleteIf i could own a company it would be a water sport company which sells stuff like boats and wake boards. I would choose this kind of company because I like to go boating and wake boarding.

DeleteHe tells designers to work on classical styles the create your own style that stands apart. I would want to open a design studio that helps to rebrand businesses. I am really interested in design and marketing and getting to run a company like this would make me so happy. I would get to see all the work my employees put into design and work with art everyday.

ReplyDeleteIf you could own your own company, what kind of company would it be and why would you choose this type of company? I would have a running company because there are a lot of cool running items and runners are fun people to talk to.
I think that a running store would be really cool and innovative
DeleteThe advice that he gives people is to put your own twist on it, make it something you enjoy of like not what people want it to be. If I was going to have my own company I would do something like clothing because I enjoying designing something for people and be able to have them enjoy the clothing just as much as I do!

DeleteThe advice he gave was to do your own original design and to be yourself. If I owned a company it would be a baseball company that sells items such as bats, and gloves. I really enjoy baseball so this job would make me happy.
ReplyDeleteI think that a company like that is a very good idea, lots of money can come from a business like that, and it's even better if it is something that you love to do.
DeleteThe advice given by him is to create your own design, and in a sense, make it your own. If I owned a company, I would own one that sells all types of sporting equiptments, from basketball to golf to baseball to soccer. I would do this because I like to play sports in general.

DeleteIt may be hard to compete with the larger sports companies like Sports Authorities, but it would be nice if there was a smaller store that would sell equipment for less. I think this would be a great opportunity.

The advice that Jimbo Phillips gives to designers is to create their own style and to be creative and unique. If I could own my own company, it would be a shoe store because I love shoes and how they can represent different sides of someone.

DeleteIts always good to encourage other people to be creative and come up with their own ideas. If I could choose a company it would be a T-Shirt company because everyone loves shirts.

If I could own my own company, it would be architectural design as well as interior design because all of the different things you can do with peoples homes is so cool and it is also cool to see what other people like when it comes to their own decisions
Interior design sounds so fun! People's homes have so much potential for interesting design and style.

DeleteThe advice he is giving to up coming designers is to be original and have your own style that interest you. And if i started my own company it would be a snowboarding company, because i find snowboarding really fascinating and i would be really interested in what i could come up with.
ReplyDeleteHe advises to be original, but still have a classic style. If I could own a company than it would be a horse lesson company. I love horses and love to ride them. I may not know how to ride very well but I think it would be so much fun.
